Folk Festival

Friday 24th to Sunday 26th November

g

The 24th to 26th November sees Bedworth full of music, song and dance for the annual Bedworth Folk Festival, now in its 42nd year.

As always the festival coincides with the turning on of the Christmas lights in the town, ensuring that Bedworth has one of its busiest weekends of the year.

There will be a host of excellent performers and festival goers from throughout the UK, and amongst the bill toppers will be Kevin Dempsey, guitarist extraordinaire, formerly with such acclaimed acts as Dando Shaft and Dave Swarbrick’s Whippersnapper, two of the most inventive folk acts of recent years.

You can catch Kevin solo on the Saturday and Sunday, when he will helping round off the week-ends festivities. In total there will be in excess of 70 acts and close to 100 Morris Dancers to ensure a talent laden and colourful weekend.

Details of times and prices on the Festival web site at www.bedworth-festival.info.

Join Captain Tempest and his fearless crew on their journey into hyperspace… and beyond! This winner of the 1990 Olivier Award for Best Musical bursts with red hot rock and roll hits, including Great Balls of Fire, Good Vibrations, Teenager in Love, The Young Ones and The Monster Mash. So fasten your seat belts, set your ray guns to stun and get ready for a cosmic adventure of meteoric proportions! Bob Carlton’s smash hit West End musical takes the 1956 film, with plot taken from Shakespeare’s The Tempest, raids the Bard’s other plays at will (and not always absolutely verbatim) and sets it to a score of great pop hits from the 1960s and 70s including: Heard it Through the Grapevine, Young Girl, Good Vibrations, Gloria and many more.

The Story: On a stormy night, mad scientist Doctor Prospero works late in his laboratory, aided only by his wife, Gloria, he has developed the elusive formula with which he intends to change the world. The apparently faithful Gloria, however, dupes him and sends him off into hyper-space in an old spacecraft. Unknown to Gloria, her infant daughter, Miranda, slumbers peacefully in the craft, and is now catapulted light years into the future in her father’s company. Fifteen years later, a routine survey flight under the command of the chisel-jawed Captain Tempest leaves earth’s orbit with a new Science Officer aboard – a hard and bitter woman. As a shower of meteorites hits the ship, the Science Officer flees, and the craft is pulled inexorably towards the plant D’Illyria – the Forbidden Planet. The adventure begins …….
