Landmark Reached In The Civic Hall’s History

f

2013 marks a very special occasion – 40 Years of High Quality Entertainment.

w

The award winning Civic Hall, officially opened in September 1973 has, over the years, played host to many of entertainments most popular and recognised names.

The CBSO, Luciano Pavarotti, Lulu, AC/DC, Billy Fury, Barbara Dickson, Cilla Black, Morecombe & Wise, Max Bygraves, Larry Grayson, Billy Ocean, Des O’Connor, Max Boyce, Harry Hill, Al Murray, Rhod Gilbert, Paddy McGuinness, Elkie Brooks, Alexander O’Neal, Dickinson’s Real Deal, Jimmy Tarbuck and  Big Daddy to name but a few have all graced The Civic Hall stage.

To celebrate our continued success the 2013 programme will see many new artistes visiting the venue for the first time as well as return visits from trusted and popular favourites.

Throughout the year there will be a focus on comedy, classical music and ballet, family entertainment and of course a heady mix of Live Music and dance, not forgetting the ever popular professionally produced in-house traditional family pantomime, this years offering – Dick Whittington and his Cat.

Comedy stage icons for 2013 include Jasper Carrott, Al Murray, Jimmy Carr, Alan Davies and Ken Dodd, all of whom have their own very different and appreciative audiences.

Our season of Live Music features The Glenn Miller Orchestra, Orchestra of the Swan, Matthew Ford, Smackee, Talon, Grimethorpe Colliery Band and quality tribute acts.

Eight of the biggest names in snooker return for the Legends Cup 2013 competition in May for two days of top professional snooker.

Comedian Alan Davies and Lee Mead headline our birthday celebrations in September. Since winning TV’s “Any Dream Will Do” in 2007 and starring in the West End smash “Joseph” for 18 months, Lee has gone on to play leading roles in two further London box office hits, “Wicked” and “Legally Blonde” and has won over many new fans during two UK tours with his solo show.

Lee is backed by a supremely talented live band as he performs hits from his West End triumphs and songs from his three albums, weaving an amusing tale or two into a brilliant evening’s entertainment.

The ever popular Legends Bar/Bistro launch a new menu and opening times in March, reflecting the changing patterns in service required from our patrons.

Whatever your taste in food and drink, music or dance please take the time to browse through our web site and remember booking tickets for any of our shows is easy and accessible, either in person, by phone, by post or online.

We look forward to welcoming you soon.
